Calling for Increased Worship
By Mamdud Ahmed
May the peace and blessings of Allah Subhana wa Ta’ala be with you all. We always begin by praising Allah, our Creator, our Sustainer, the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsisting, the Owner of the Seven Heavens and the Earth, and we also send salutations upon our beloved role model, our hero, our prophet, Muhammad, peace be upon him. My beloved brothers and sisters in Islam, I once again write to just convey some friendly reminders, for verily our religion is one full of reminders. The best of reminder comes none other than from the Book of Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Wise. In it, our Lord provides us with parables to help us think and make connections of this life to His creation. In it, we can find news of glad tidings to those who believe and strive for righteousness, as well as warnings from a most severe punishment bestowed both from Al-Jabbar.
This article focuses on the auspicious month that is swiftly passing us by. The month of Ramadan has come once again and is drifting away from us. I ask of us all to ponder, to really reflect on the actions that we have sent forwards towards our Hereafter. I ask for us to really understand the actions that have been written down in our books by the two angels lying on our shoulders, Kiraaman-Kaathibeen. I want us to think if this Ramadan was an improvement over the last and if we made the most of it. The general response from the ummah (nation) of Muhammad, peace be upon him, tends to be that “We did what we could.†These words being uttered by some are acceptable, whereas in other cases, not fully living to potential. But grieve not, for verily your Lord is the Most Generous and Most Kind to His slaves and worshippers.
We are approaching the last ten days of Ramadan, in which lies a very special night. Hadhrat Salmaan (R.A) reports that on the last day of Sha’baan the Messenger of Allah Ta’ala addressed them and said, “Oh people, there comes before you now a great month, a most blessed month in which lies a night more greater in virtue than 1,000 months (LAYLATUL-QADR). It is a month in which each day should be observed by fasting, this has been made obligatory by the Almighty Allah.â€
Different narrations have spoken on this extremely valuable night, the Night of Decree. Many scholars are of the opinion that this special night lies in the last ten days of Ramadan, with a greater chance of occurring at one of the odd nights. Many add to this by saying that we shouldn’t let that only increase our worship in the odd days of the last ten nights, but rather try to approach each day as if it was Laylatul-Qadr. In doing so only increases our probabilities in finding this night, as well as adding to our book of deeds.
Your Rabb wants you to spend as much time giving towards this religion in the time allotted for you on this Earth. The more you do the more reward you can acquire from the One who is Ash-Shakur, the One Who Appreciates Service. I call for us all to increase our worship and good deeds while they are multiplied tremendously. Don’t let your personal whims and desires get in the way of what could be a possible deal breaker for you on Al-Yawm Al-Azeem (The Great Day). May the Cherisher of the Worlds give us the ability to act upon what has been said here. Ameen!
