Hundreds Attend 3rd Annual Festival at ICD
By Noor H. Salem
The Islamic Center of Detroit decided to join forces with two other local masjids, Masjid Dearborn (AMS) and Masjid Al-Salam (DCC) for the Eid Al-Adha Festival this year. They decided to join together to make one big event, and considered it “one ummah, one Eidâ€. On Saturday, October 19th, the ICD parking lot was closed off all day for yet another extraordinary event. From 10AM until 11PM hundreds of people came with their families and children for a daylong of fun for everyone. Even by nighttime the crowd was still there, if anything, many were just waiting for the entertainment. Four huge moonwalks and slides lined one end of the parking lot, while a real pony ride, petting farm with goats, chickens, and more, were caged in at the other end. There was an indoor bazaar full of various booths, plenty of delicious catered food, face painting, henna, and so much more.
It didn’t end there though. This year, for the first time, the festival hosted an enormous indoor live entertainment session at 7PM by comedian Mo Amer, Nashid Artist Yahya Hawwa, Comedian Azhar Usman, Nashid Artist Nasser Sharif, and the drummer of Native Deen band, Tariq Snare. This was one of the best entertainment sessions held at the ICD, and it drew even more people by dawn. It definitely was a day to remember, and definitely another successful festival at the ICD.
