Detroit–April 8–The Muslim Scholastic Tournament (MIST) is a nationwide tournament designed to test the skills of Muslim high school students in separate regions around the country.
The MIST Tournaments occurr at about ten locations nationwide (and Toronto).
This past weekend hundreds of local high school kids participated in the scholastic tournament, which tests such eclectic areas as school spirit, web design, tajweed, memorization, poetry, original oratory, short fiction, fashion design, photography, and prepared essay writing.
The competitors must compete in teams, and one strength of the teams was their group loyalty (whenever any individual from a team won an award immense amounts of screaming and applause arose from their team members).
The teams displayed a wide variety of styles also, some displaying incredible poise and good character while others were a little less reserved. All the students showed sincerity and enthusiasm.
In each competition area three prizes were awarded, first second and third.
All of the students, however, won, because they met for the first time the leaders of their generation in the Muslim community.
Several business helped sponsor the Detroit MIST meeting, including The Muslim Observer.
