FREMONT,CA–Sami Khan, a 13 year old from Fremont, has won the United Nationâ€™s International Painting Competition. He was selected from among 65,000 participants from around the world. The yearly competition is open to ages 6-14 has attracted over 3000,000 paintings from children from 100 countries.
This year the competition focused on the theme of Food Waste in support of UNEPâ€™s â€œThink Eat Save: Reduce your Footprintâ€ campaign. Khan received the award last month at a ceremony in Nairo at the hands of Kenyaâ€™s First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.
Khan plans on saving up his award money for college, as his mother advised him, since he would like to attend Stanford University.
