Shaitan’s Tricks of Division and how to avoid them
By Imam Abdullah El-Amin
“The believers, men and women, are protectors, one of another. They enjoin what is just and forbid what is evil. They observe regular prayers, pay zakat, and obey ALLAH and His Messenger. On them ALLAH will pour His mercy: for ALLAH is exalted in power, wise.â€
Holy Qur’an 9:71
There is a trick of the Satanic mentality of divide and conquer that has played well for him throughout history. It is common sense that if you can pit your enemies against one another, you may not have to fight them at all. They will kill each other for you. It has happened in Ireland, Bosnia, many parts of Africa, and untold countless other places in the world. It is amazing that people are capable of inflicting some of the most brutal suffering imaginable on their own people, at the behest of, and for the benefit of their common enemy.
There is talk on the news every day in the news about the United States’s propaganda about Iran. First it was the big lie to get us into Iraq. The United States has been very successful at pulling the wool over a great many American citizens’ eyes. The death toll of Iraqi citizens, at the hands of other Iraqi citizens, continues to rise each day. This is not counting the untold hundreds of thousands killed by American firepower. At the same time, it is amazing that they are being called “insurgents†in their own land as they battle not so much their own government, but an invading one. So America can choose to help whatever side fits its agenda. We pit Sunni against Shi’a and then help the one who helps our agenda.
Now, our president is focusing his sights on Iran because they allegedly are pursuing nuclear weapons. (More Weapons of Mass Destruction like the ones in Iraq?) There are other countries, like Israel and a few others, that, according to the United Nations, are not supposed to have nuclear weapons. Why not demand inspections on them?
This is one reason why Muslims, of whatever persuasion, must respect and cooperate with one another. Whenever I’m discussing this centuries-old split, I ask jokingly, but very seriously, “What was Prophet Muhammad (s), Sunni or Shi’a?†The answer is neither. Muslim…period.
The century’s-old issue of Suni-Shi’a animosity is one that few people today can really feel or identify with. Most people are simply following handed-down cultural mentalities that are archaic and useless as well as destructive, in this day and time. It makes no sense to interact with Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, and any other group that smiles at us, and yet refuse to acknowledge a fellow Muslim brother or sister who happens to adhere to a different “school of thought.†This insane behavior is by no means restrictive – it is on both sides of the fence. Shi’a and Sunni are equally bull-headed.
If we concentrate more on the Qur’an, which houses the directives of ALLAH, rather than directives, that came from different men after the revelation, we will have the perfect solution to our problems. ALLAH did not break us up into sects. He (ALLAH), to the contrary orders us to be as a “cemented structure,†helping one another against all types of common enemies. ALLAH sent His Book and His Prophet (s) as Mercies to the entire world. After that came the divisions. Reach across these divisions to the ones who say “La illaha Illallah, Muhammadun Rasul Allah,†and who believe in His Word. That is the way to success.
