WEST WINDSOR,NJ-The West Windsor Township Police Department hosted four days of symposiums on Muslims and the Islamic faith. Speakers from the Institute of Islamic Studies in East Windsor spoke daily about various aspects of the Islamic faith. According to the Times of Trenton around 100 township workers and emergency responders attended the sessions.
“I would say I made new friends,’’ said organizer Sgt. Mark Lee to the Times. “We’re building bridges of understanding.’’
Tahir Zafar, the institute’s board chairman, said working to build trust between police and the communities they serve helps both sides. Learning about Muslim culture, given the current political climate, is especially important, Zafar said.
