Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris participates in town hall

Vice President Kamala Harris spoke to undecided constituents on Wednesday night in a town hall hosted by CNN in Chester Township, Pennsylvania. In less than two weeks, the election will take place, and constituents will cast their vote.
The town hall was originally supposed to be the second Presidential debate that was turned down by former President Donald Trump. The town hall was moderated by CNN’s Anderson Cooper who is well-known across the journalism broadcast industry. Harris has been questioning Trump’s sanity in the political race.
Trump previously used the same rhetoric surrounding 81-year-old President Biden before he dropped out of the 2024 race this past July. Then, Harris replaced his spot in the race.
Harris has also been careful to mention Biden when making remarks due to her loyalty as Vice President. Harris is working to secure black voters, suburban moderates, and undecided groups ahead of election night. Harris is confronting Trump’s remarks against Democrats and debated her opponent’s views on abortion-related issues.
Harris widely focused on abortion rights and also focused on the gender-related gap that continues to exist today. She highlighted how several women across the United States were impacted by abortion-related issues. Then, it stemmed from separate states having been impacted by restrictive abortion laws. Harris has previously cited on the campaign trail that certain women have died after important medical procedures were denied due to abortion restrictions in some states.
Harris took jabs at Trump and even agreed that she believes he’s a fascist. She called him unstable to lead a country. Meanwhile, Trump spoke at a rally in Georgia before the town hall. He also took jabs at Harris and mocked her over musical guests at her rally.
Trump has also continued with his immigration reform agenda. He told media outlets this week that the Biden administration was letting individuals into the country that had in his opinion “swastikas on their foreheads.”
Trump currently has a national sales tax plan that could cost Americans an additional $4,000 per year. Trump has repeatedly stated he plans to impose a tariff of 10% or 20% on every product being imported into the United States. Then, he plans to increase a tariff of 60 percent on all Chinese goods being imported into America.
Meanwhile, he also spoke about a tariff on cars that are made in Mexico.
Harris mentioned how Trump faces four criminal charges and was impeached twice. Then, vowed to work across the aisle to pass major policies. She plans to implement a ban on price gouging. She believes inflation is impacting all Americans and their grocery bill. She revealed that her proposal to ban price gouging would include new penalties for companies that are exploiting, and breaking the rules. The average price of groceries has slowly ticked upward by 20 percent ever since 2020, according to the Consumer Price Index data.
Meanwhile, Harris claimed she would be a President for all Americans when asked a question during the town hall on Wednesday night. She mentioned trying to create more unity and would enact policies that were best fit for the citizens. She argued that her plan would bring solutions to the border crisis of illegal immigration in the United States. Harris kept suggesting that America’s immigration system is broken, and she was a prosecutor previously.
“We have to have a secure border,” Harris said. “And, we have to have a comprehensive pathway for citizenship.”
She added that the issue of the border would be eventually resolved by congressional action. She was asked how her policies differentiate from Biden’s and struggled to provide specific answers.
“I bring to this role my own ideas and my own experience,” Harris said. “I represent a new generation of leadership on a number of issues and believe that we have to actually take new approaches.”
Harris is offering a new approach to the border crisis. She told voters she would work on a bipartisan bill to secure the border and help fix the immigration crisis. But, when asked about the escalating local tension the Israel and Gaza war has caused in the United States, Harris called for a bill to tackle antisemitism.
“We need to have laws in place that make those who would commit crimes on behalf of antisemitism and hate, that they pay a serious consequence,” Harris stated.
Harris then stated she hoped the death of Yahya Sinwar would eventually lead to potential peaceful conversations in the Middle East and bring a ceasefire to the region. She also added that a lot of damage has been taking place, and she does not want another Palestinian to die from warfare.
“ I do believe we have an opportunity to end this war, bring the hostages home, bring relief to the Palestinian people,” Harris stated.
Then, she added working toward a two-state solution between Palestine and Israel. She believes all human beings deserve safety, and the right to live. However, her answer was very vague in response to the ongoing tension overseas.
Harris answered questions to capitalize on key battleground states to help win her spot as President of the United States in the 2024 election. But polls suggest that she and Trump are inches away, and it’s a close race.
